update/around the web

February 26, 2009

I’ve been a little MIA lately. I’ve been working 3 nights a week, and it has been a busy few days. Loving the new job by the way, and big bonus it comes with a free gym membership! I haven’t used it yet, since I’m STILL trying to get over my cold. On Monday we [...]

save your pennies

February 23, 2009

For the last 2 years we have been saving any change we have in a large, plastic water bottle. It’s called the “Puppy Jar,” since we are saving for you guessed it, a puppy! We don’t use a ton of cash, but any change we do have (and a few donations) have gone into the [...]

hulu doesn’t play nice

February 19, 2009

Remember my post about cutting the cable? Yeah, that’s not working out so great. We got AppleTV and have been streaming shows via Boxee. Many of the shows we like to watch are coming from hulu. Yesterday hulu decided after pressure from content providers to pull hulu content away from Boxee users. A very confusing [...]

confessions of a shopaholic

February 18, 2009

I went to Confessions on Friday evening, a rare treat, right before the flu hit me hard. The movie was really entertaining, and I have a new love for Isla Fisher. She lights up the screen. I definitely think it’s worth a rental when it comes on DVD, it’s probably not one you have to [...]

around the web

February 17, 2009

I’m feeling slightly human again, and grateful that my head feels attached to my spine again. Kids are finally playing instead of moaning, coughing, blowing noses in agony. DVD player is off. I’m catching up on e-mails, reading, and tweeting, and found several really inspirational blog posts this AM. Maybe it’s the sunshine, but sitting [...]

Taking a break for the weekend

February 14, 2009

Hi all, I’m taking the weekend off from blogging. I had set up a few posts, but I don’t have the ability to concentrate on writing and editing right now. I was sick for about a week with viral bronchitis and then the hubby or one the kids brought something else home. So I was [...]

11 ways to save on auto insurance

February 12, 2009

photo credit: Damian Morys Fotos We started with a policy that we were paying $750/6 months for 2 vehicles. That included loads of discounts (multi driver, low mileage, etc.). We are insured through USAA which has consistently been the cheapest insurance option. Most insurers can’t come close to their numbers, and I’ve always had excellent [...]

cutting the cable

February 10, 2009

We finally pulled the plug, well mostly. The one holdout on our monthly expenses was the cable “bundle”. We (stupidly) signed a (stupid) contract that had us at $99/month for phone, cable and internet for a year, and then it jumped to $144/month for the second year. We also have a TiVo which I adore [...]

taming fear

February 9, 2009

Some days, like today I wake up in a mood. (okay well most days I do, I’ll admit I’m not a morning person anymore)  I have been looking over the next few months of bills/budgets and trying to figure out where our extra money should go. When I look at the numbers all tallied up [...]

when it pays to pay

February 8, 2009

“Before” and “After” shot of the 3 year old’s ‘do above. Sometimes it pays to have someone else provide a service for you. Some services you might consider outsourcing are haircuts, landscaping, basic car maintenance, house cleaning, and babysitting. One service I absolutely can not provide for the family is haircuts. Above is an example [...]
