hulu doesn’t play nice

Remember my post about cutting the cable?

Yeah, that’s not working out so great. We got AppleTV and have been streaming shows via Boxee. Many of the shows we like to watch are coming from hulu.

Yesterday hulu decided after pressure from content providers to pull hulu content away from Boxee users. A very confusing move since you know hulu is owned by NBC/Fox and hey NBC and Fox ARE content providers. Plus we had to sit through their ads to watch their content.

I’m sure some solution will eventually be reached, but for now we have options to consider and numbers to run.

Our current debate mostly centers around whether we return the Apple TV (we have until Saturday to return it minus a 10% restocking fee), or keep it and find a way to get our $ worth.

The hubby is also heard something about the TiVo as an HD tuner. That means nothing to me, but I’ll fill you in once I can actually see Tina Fey’s face again.

      We opted to return the Apple TV, and get an antenna.
      We are going to need to get a roof one, but we got a pretty good one and set it up, so we could watch the Oscars.
      I was amazed by how much clearer the picture was versus our cable pic!

    Return your apple tv, buy an hd series3 tivo, pay 13 bucks a month for the tivo using off air antenna and stream netflix movies and shows with an 8.99 netflix subscription. Anything you miss will still be on hulu on your computer.

      We already have the TiVo, so not a problem there.
      I figured out the savings from returning the Apple TV will cover the cost of the subscriptions for the year. Just have to figure out what kind of antennae we need.
