passwords as motivators

April 30, 2009

Lifehacker posted yesterday about a hack for staying motivated to reach goals by using passwords that include your goals. This is something I started doing about 6 months ago. I reached one of my goals (taking a vacation to San Francisco with my husband) before I expected to!

the organized workspace

April 27, 2009

For about a year, I tried sharing a desk with my kids. We purchased a long, pine tabletop from Ikea and had a space for our shared computer (an iMac), their art supplies, and my paperwork/stamps/bills/etc. After the 3rd or 4th time someone wrote on a bill or used my stamps for play letters I knew we needed to change things.

Why use a credit card?

April 18, 2009

Despite the fact that we are still digging our way out of debt (we’re down 17%!), we recently started using  a credit card for our everyday purchases. photo credit: Andres Rueda I’ve always been a big believer in using my debit card AS a credit card. Especially since our bank charges a $1 fee after [...]

What would you do with a $1,000,000?

April 17, 2009

photo credit: khrawlings FiveCentNickel asked his followers on twitter, “What would you do with a major windfall? For the sake of argument, let’s say that someone dropped a million bucks in your lap. Would you pay down debt? Buy something nice? Save or invest it?” There are tons of responses over at FCN, but most [...]
