March Update (belated)/April Goals

April 10, 2009

in update

I didn’t post a March update this month yet, but better late than never!

March Goals

1) Work out 3-4 days a week: I started working at a gym, and one of the perks is a free membership. I will start working out this week. I’m really looking forward to it, the gym is beautiful, and offers some really wonderful classes like yoga and pilates (mat) included in the membership.

I did not start officially working out until this month. I had to get my paperwork signed off on at the gym, and I continued not feeling well for most of the month. (no worries, I did go see the doctor, I am going back in for one repeat test this month, but otherwise everything is “normal”)

I have been taking the dog for a walk several times a week, so while I averaged 3 times a week it’s not exactly what I need to get fit.

This goal will roll over into April.

2) Limit Starbucks: This was a bad habit this past month. We spent a LOT in February at the ‘Bux. I am considering preloading a card and sticking to that amount for the month.  For me it’s a big stress reliever, and I really enjoy my coffee. It’s really my only vice.

We were successful in cutting back, but I’d like to cut it out altogether for the next 2 months. It will only be a small drop in the bucket, but it will help pay for our trip to SF.

3) Write a To-Do list each morning:
I generally do this, but I need to set aside “office” time each morning for 10 minutes and check in on my calendar and my to-dos.

Done! And I’ll continue but not add this to April’s list. It’s become a habit now.

4) Continue healthy dinners, and playtime with kids.

Check on playtime, not so much with dinner. We are really going to work on cleaning up our diet now that Spring is here.

April Goals

1) Workout 3-4 times a week at gym, not to include walking the dog.

2) Limit discretionary spending in anticipation of June trip. To include Starbucks, “extras” at grocery store, etc.

3) Make a Meal Plan every week and stick to it.

4) Spend one evening or afternoon each week creating a backlog of posts. Then I can enjoy the beautiful weather or have a great day out with the kids, but you can still read something wonderful. :)

5) Complete planning for June trip, summer vacation, and school for kids next year.

6) Make an updated will. This one should really be number 1. Before we fly to SF I want to make sure we have an updated will and testament for both my husband and myself.

To make these goals more PRESENT in my day, I’m going to print them out and post them on the wall in my bedroom. Cliche? Yes, but if it works, it works! What are your goals this month? How do you remind yourself of what needs to get done?

    Clara, thanks for stopping by!
Starbucks has tea lattes now too, I think they are SO yummy. :)
I like your idea of eating smaller portions, it’s a good way to meet my other goal of getting more fit!

I am a chart/list lover as well, I need to create an updated list to include exercising, and blogging as well.

A day of REST? What’s that?! With 4 kids at home rest is not usually an option, but I think having at least a few hours where I’m not doing something would be good.

Its amazing. I have very similar goals. Fortunately, I am a tea drink, so Starbucks is not an issue for me. But I do like to eat out for breakfast on the weekends. So now I am ordering the “small portions” menu, which costs about 25% less. And it helps with my diet too.

I recently made a weekly chart of activities. Very simple. AM & PM. It shows which fitness classes I attend, days for yardwork, an editorial schedule for my blog and even includes a day of REST. Let’s see how it works.

Great goals. Ooh…I like this red type. Sorry, tangent. Anyway, I was going comment about the meal planning, which I am crap at. But, I have to say that I was getting pretty good at it when I was posting it on my blog for Meal Planning Monday over at http://www.orgjunkie.com. You might not be interested in doing that, but you can see a ton of other meal plans and get some great recipes.

I need to update our Life Insurance. That is a big goal for me for April. It’s one of those things I just keep avoiding since I hate researching it.

    Good luck!

I’m really bad at it too. The only time I’ve ever really stuck to it was when we were on a super strict diet and it was impertaive to my sanity. Maybe I need to do the diet again too-it might motivate me.

MB, we did the life insurance thing a few months ago, so if you have any ?s drop me a line. :)

Maybe you can switch to a less expensive cup at ‘bux? I usually have a cup of plain drip instead of Americano or a latte. A spoon of cocoa powder and nutmeg at the milk/sugar counter makes a passable DIY mocha. :)

I’m trying to write a couple of posts over the weekend when I have a few hours to myself, and schedule them to publish over the early parts of the week. I leave a couple days open to write something ‘current events’ related. I keep a notebook of topics as the inspirations strikes, then I go over them when I have time to write and pick which one I want to run with. That way, I get some writing done, and still have time for other things I have to do or enjoy.

I’m debating going dairy free for a few weeks (as part of a cleansing diet), so drip coffee would have to suffice, and since I can easily make that at home I will be less likely to go to Starbucks.

My time is usually in the evenings, and every week I generally get a 3 hour or so chunk of quiet. I have to learn to write multiple posts at that time, and save them. I’m always so eager to hit publish!
