Last night I came across the website YouData. The premise is that you enter your some non-identifying info about yourself, and fill in surveys about your life and preferences and then you see ads that are directed to you, and get paid a small amount to view them. It won’t make you a fortune but it could earn you a few dollars each week, maybe enough for a latte, or a few songs from iTunes.
The surveys ask questions like: Do you own or rent? How many bottles of wine do you own? You’re also asked to include info like your annual household income, clothing sizes, and hobbies. If you don’t feel comfortable sharing that info, you probably won’t want to waste your time signing up. Personally I fill out surveys for some of the companies we have services with (like USAA), or places we frequent (local grocery chain, Wegman’s) all the time. I’m also signed up for marketing studies locally though I have never actually completed one. They always take a short online survey and then disqualify me which makes me wonder if the marketing companies are using my data for free!
I thought I’d give it a try and see what it was like. I spent about 20 minutes filling in the survey info, and then downloading the ad widget. I received about 14 targeted ads, and clicked on each link which earned me a total of $2.24 for less than 5 minutes work.
I’ve earned a small amount each week from YouData, and while it won’t pay the mortgage, it’s enough to buy a cup of coffee each month.
If you would like to check out YouData, I would appreciate it if you would use this referral code: http://www.youdata.com/join/centsiblelife I earn a few cents for every person who signs up.
