cash for fridges

Has nothing to do with cash for fridges, but I found it hilarious!

Cash for clunkers came to a close this weekend. We were a bit bummed we didn’t get to take advantage of the deal since we have a clunker. It missed the mark by 1 MPG.

I saw a tweet on twitter from Five Cent Nickel about a new program called “Cash for Appliances” program aimed at boosting sales of energy efficient appliances.

We may be able to take advantage of the program to replace our 1990 fridge with something more energy efficient. Our fridge is on its’ last legs (it’s turned all the way up to keep things properly cold, and is making a weird noise), so we’ll try to be patient and save up to replace it.

Our dishwasher is 2 years old, and our washer and dryer though about 6 years old, are fantastic. So neither of those need replacing.

For more on the program check out Business Week.

Do you have any appliances you would replace?

Kelly, our “clunker” was also 1 mpg over the limit so we missed out as well.

Our washer is at least 10 years old and probably closer to 15. i would like to replace it with a front-loader. We have replaced all other appliances within the past 5 years so no needs other than the washer.

Kosmo, ouch. A furnace can be expensive. Thankfully ours is newish, so we won’t need to replace it for a long while. There aren’t tax credits for replacing your furnace?

Bucksome, you know my pain then. :)
We have a front loader and I LOVE it. They have gotten even cooler looking and better than when we bought ours. If you’re looking to save some dough Fisher and Paykal make a model that’s a top loader that works like a front loader. It’s cheaper, and close to being as energy/water efficient.

We replaced kitchen appliances a couple of years ago. Washer and dryer are about seven years old. The furnace, however, is trending toward the end of life … so if there is a “cash for furnaces” program looming, that would be cool :)

Our older car is a 98 Contour with about 108K miles on it. Not even close to qualifying for C4C. On the other hand, good mileage is its own reward, I guess.

Well darn, I was hoping this was something about getting paid to recycle your old fridges. I’ve found 3 on this farm already. I don’t really need a new fridge, just need to get rid of the old ones! Love the pic!

      3?!
I wonder if they have any scrap value?
I thought the pic was too funny/weird to pass up. :)
