When we converted our oldest son’s room into an office, we knew we weren’t done simply by moving his bed. The room he is sharing with his brother is small. It has enough room for 2 beds, but we would prefer the beds to be bunked so the boys would have more room to play on the floor.
This should be an easy thing to do since their beds are 2 parts of the same bunk bed set. But it’s never that easy right?
We moved into this house and put the pieces in bags for later. Some we found, but some were missing. We took a trip to Ikea to find the parts to no avail. Ikea had changed manufacturers and the beds are now made with different hardware. Awesome.
The hubby and I talked and decided they definitely need more space.
Our first instinct was to buy a new set of bunkbeds.
But while I was in the shower (the only place to do quiet thinking, or thinking at all, in my house) I came up with another plan.
We would switch the boys and girls rooms.
The girls’ room is bigger, and has more space and can handle the 2 twin beds. And the boys’ room is smaller, but can easily fit the girl’s bunk beds and their stuff.
More importantly it would save us the $300 we had already thought we needed to spend.
So while the oldest is off at Camp Grandma, and the girls are in school, the little guy and I will be working on taking everything out of the boys’ room so we can replace some drywall (we have more panels cut into walls than any house I’ve ever seen), painting and moving furniture.
The 3 kids will sleep in the girls’ room this week, and next week (I hope!) they will move into their newly refinished room.
That means you may see less of me this week. And no, we aren’t “done” the office yet. We still have a few things that need finishing up, but I’m taking my time deciding on the last few items.
