Just the Sales, Ma’am

in shopping

Kelly’s note: This is a post by new staff writer, Jaime Narke. Jaime was asked to come on board as our resident fashionista.

Jaime Narke is a freelance graphic designer and stay-at-home mom of three. When she isn’t taking care of her family she is perusing the internet for the perfect dress at the best price, and she has never said, “I hate the mall.”

Just the Sales Ma’am.

When it comes to clothes and shoes, I want what I want, but I don’t want to pay full-price. Thankfully Shop It To Me knows this and offers up all of my beloved brands, on sale and in my inbox. If you love to shop but haven’t heard of Shop It To Me, prepare to get excited.

Shop It To Me works as your free, personal online shopper. When you sign up for this daily, weekly or semi-weekly e-mail service you can select women’s, men’s, girl’s or boy’s clothing and then you choose from more than 650 designer brands, including Theory, Banana Republic, Kate Spade, Ella Moss, Ugg and just about every other brand your stylish self wants to be wearing. You can even narrow down your results to specific styles of clothing and sizes.

Each morning, waiting for you will be your salemail featuring your current favorites on sale that day directly from web sites such as Nordstrom, Piperlime, Smartbargains, Shopbop and Revolve Clothing, just to name a few. You don’t purchase from Shop It To Me, when you click on an item to purchase you are taken directly to the retailer’s Web site.

In addition to the salemail, at the bottom of each e-mail is a link to your Sale Spot, which will connect you directly to a Web site featuring all of the items currently on sale that fit the parameters you entered when you signed up. While your salemail may only have 50 items on sale that day, your Sale Spot has thousands, trust me… my current sale spot lists 5,093 items! Fortunately, you can filter these items to a specific item of clothing, designer or retailer. Yes, for a fashionable bargain hunter, it is as tempting as it sounds.

If you are a runner, Shop It To Me also offers a Shop It To Me Running so you can get sales of name brand running shoes, athletic wear and gear.

Some recent sales that caught my eye included a pair of Joe’s Jeans regularly $174 on sale for $51 from Nordstrom and a $995 Marc Jacobs dress for $348 from the Outnet, neither of which I bought, but the “window” shopping is fantastic.

With three little kids at home, I don’t have the time to go and scour the mall or the entire internet for the perfect sale items, but I’ve learned to enjoy the thrill of the hunt being sent to me directly.

Have you ever used Shop it to Me? What’s your favorite way to shop for sales?

I do use Shop It To Me, but I usually don't open it. I find it to be more of a hindrance to my frugality than a help. Sending me an email with exactly the stuff I love, for sale prices, day in and day out, can do more than enough damage on my budget and savings plan, which is more the direction I thought this page was aiming. Nobody needs a $348 Marc Jacob dress, even if it is more than half off. I still haven't unsubscribed from the service, but as I said most days I don't open the email because it is just too tempting to waste money for a fashion lover like myself.

Sarah, that's why I recommend a separate email address for sale emails. Then if you are shopping for something you need or want you can see what's available instead of being tempted. I agree most people don't need expensive clothing, but if you are meeting all your other financial goals then there is no reason not to spend your money on what you want.

More often than not I just delete the e-mails, it can be overwhelming and way too tempting, but I like having the option when I have time to skim the sales. That's why I especially like the Sale Spot so I can narrow my search down for exactly what I'm looking for and not be tempted by something I don't need but want.

I agree. I love retailmenot. If I'm buying something online I always search for a way to get a discount, be it free shipping or just comparing merchants prices. It's like a quest!
