Talk about the Taboo

in money

There are certain topics that make us squirm. They are uncomfortable to talk about with other people, and will make even the most open person close up. Money is one of those taboo topics.

Prosper.com wants to get more people talking about money. How they spend it, how they save, how much they earn, and more. Prosper created Talk about the Taboo as a forum for readers to share their finance and debt stories on an open forum.

Anyone who shares story and be entered to win $1,000, which can be used to tame their own taboo and pay down debt or boost savings! For info on how to enter and rules head here.

More info about Prosper:

Prosper was created on the premise that consumers should be able to help each other financially by borrowing from, or lending to, one another directly. The Prosper model encourages openness and transparency. By sharing personal stories, thousands of borrowers on Prosper.com have been funded and, as a result, realized their financial goals whether they were to manage debt or secure a loan for a lifelong ambition.

Prosper members share inspirational stories of how they are using Prosper loans to better their lives, so Prosper wants to take this one step further and encourage more open conversation as a way of helping us all meet our financial goals, including getting out of debt. This is where Talk About The Taboo comes in, they are launching a site where people will share stories about how they’re tackling debt, and celebrate their milestones as they strive for better financial fitness, as well as helping them find guidance and practical help. What better way of shedding your financial inhibitions than sharing your own story, or sharing in someone’s goals?

I have to say while not the biggest fan of Prosper (at least from an initial read)…I am intrigued by this new site.

While "bearing all" to others can be a little scary, this seems like the 12-steps of AA (or whatever the # is).

You admit you have a problem you, you share it with others, and you rely on others in your same circumstances to support/coach you towards that ultimate goal.

One more day and you'll be on Page #1 of Wisebread Top 100 PF Blogs! Congrats!

Interesting. I'd never heard of prosper before. It sounds like an interesting concept.
