We’re debt-free!

April 1, 2010

in money

It’s been a long journey, but today I send the last payment to our last credit card! It feels so good to finally be free from the bondage of credit card debt!

How did we do it?

I broke up with my credit cards

we slashed expenses

we budgeted every penny

we tried eating at home all the time

we saved

we made mistakes

we had emergencies

but we finally did it!

April Fool’s!

Having credit card debt is so foolish! And sadly the only fool here is me. I wish I could say that this post was for real, but it’s not. We’re getting there and the tips and tricks I share are helping, but we aren’t there yet. We’re like the tortoise from the classic fable of the tortoise and the hare. Slow and steady will eventually win the race.

Someday soon I will be able to post this for real. And then it won’t be a joke.

Kelly

Did I fool you?

Aww, it's OK! If you are taking those steps you listed, then you will be able to make this post for real soon! We just paid off a major credit card that was actually closed for non-use by Chase. The interest rate was insane. They pestered us for months because it was closed and they of course wanted their money. They offered us several times a “pay off amount” for “pennies on the dollar”. However, when Matt called to check on it – all those offers were gone. He not so happily paid off the entire $3600 payment thanks to a bonus from his job (and our tax returns). 3 days later we got a note from chase offering us a payoff amount.

You can do it – it maybe a hard road – but take the steps you listed and you can do it!
