If you follow me on twitter or are a fan or friend on Facebook you may have noticed I had a little getaway last weekend. On Friday night Shannon, Sarah and I headed to Bear Creek Resort for an overnight stay and spa week preview.
It was much needed after weeks of juggling my husband’s volunteer work, my work, his real job, the kids’ school schedules, and oh yeah stitches. (I’m tired just writing that)
We arrived around 7pm on Friday night and we were wowed as soon as we drove up. The fact that Bear Creek is only a short drive from our area is a huge plus, and we really had no idea it was there!
After we checked out the lobby and checked in, we walked to our part of the hotel, and went up to our room. The hotel’s decor was gorgeous. Dark red paint, checkered carpet, stone walls-it was very rustic, mixed with traditional and modern.
Our room was a 3 bedroom loft with 2 beds in 2 upstairs bedrooms, and one king bed downstairs. It also had 3 bathrooms, a bar area, and 2 living rooms. The hotel staff told us it could sleep 12! It would be perfect for a getaway with my family since there is a whole separate floor for the kids.
The best part was sitting in the living space though. We sat down and chatted, uninterrupted by little people climbing into laps, breaking up arguments or mounds of laundry to fold. In a word it was fabulous.
We were treated to dinner at the Bear Creek Grille, and we peeked our heads into one of several weddings that were partying the night away that evening.
The next morning we got up, had a lovely buffet breakfast, and then headed to the Spa at Bear Creek. We were there to preview Spa Week services. We each had a 30 minute massage, a mini facial, and ended with a lovely glass of local wine and a healthy lunch.
The Spa was just as lovely as the rest of the hotel. Very polished, clean, and the setting was so relaxing
The massage was a Swedish massage, so not light but perfect to work out all the kinks in my back and neck from chasing around children, and being bent over my keyboard a good portion of each day. And definitely not as “ow this hurts” painful as the therapeutic massages I get for my neck. The facial was extremely relaxing, so much so I nearly fell asleep! The fragrance of the products was a combination of chamomile and lavender. It was divine.
Spa Week Skinny
While you may not be able to get to Bear Creek, you can experience Spa Week at spas all over the East Coast, in the Midwest, and in Toronto from October 11-17th. $50 spa treatments range from massage to facials and more.
I know all too well that moms don’t take time for themselves often enough, and most spa days run hundreds of dollars. Now you can have a budget friendly spa day without breaking your budget.
While I do think saving money and paying off debt is important, you have to make space in your budget for the occasional treat, and I can’t think of a way I’d rather spend my money than relaxing at a spa!
To find a participating spa near you head to SpaWeek.com.
