Do you watch Community? It’s one of my favorite shows on tv. I don’t watch a ton of television, but this is one of my must watch shows. It’s both the amazing actors, and the hilarious writing that is a constant stream of hilarious scenes, pop culture nods, and humor. Community airs on NBC at 8pm on Thursday nights. If you can’t watch it live, you can DVR it, or watch it on hulu.com If you haven’t seen Community it’s a ensemble show with a hilarious cast of characters including Chevy Chase (in a unobtrusive role-they did not build the show around him, but he embodies the character perfectly), and Joel McHale (host of The Soup). I got a special opportunity to preview the holiday episode which is a take on the holiday classics, and uses stop motion animation to bring a whole new element to the show. In the story Abed tells every they are stop motion and the concept of the holiday show is that Abed needs to find the true meaning of Christmas. It makes sense that the characters are stop motion since that’s what all the classic animation movies from my childhood are. (think Rudolph, Frosty and others) Here’s a preview of the episode (an ad plays beforehand-this is NBC’s choice not mine): My husband and I previewed the show, and really enjoyed it. We felt like the special episode was fun, especially the pop culture nods, and the fondness we have for stop motion from our childhoods made it enjoyable. There is a pace that makes the typical Community show non-stop funny, and we felt that the stop motion animation slowed down that pace and the tension slightly. If this is your first time watching Community, I’d recommend checking out this special episode and then working your way through the episodes from the beginning. Season 1 is out on DVD now. Even with some slight criticism it was still a super enjoyable 1/2 hour of television, and I highly recommend it if only for seeing what toy Abed turns each cast member into. Mr. Chang as a snowman? Priceless. Will you be tuning in Thursday night? If so, you should consider joining the One2OneNetwork’s twitter party where people will be live tweeting the show at 8pm EST (sorry Pacific friends, you’ll have to wait until 8pm PST to watch and avoid twitter and the #NBCCommunity hashtag if you don’t want spoilers) Kelly Disclosure: I was able to preview the episode early thanks to One2One Network.
