Fashion Friday: 5 budget pieces that will make your wardrobe feel new again

It’s Fashion Friday, again. I’m aiming to write every week about money saving fashion tips, and linking to other blogs that have more great fashion advice below (see the bottom of the post).

This week I wanted to talk about giving yourself a wardrobe makeover on a budget. If you don’t have these items, I’ll share some great places to score them at bargain prices, and if you do you may be able to makeover your wardrobe for $0! If you’re shopping, Gap.com is having (another) amazing sale this weekend! 30% off online only!

1) Jeggings or Leggings
I know lots of women think these aren’t for them, but I’ll tell you a secret, they work on all body types. It’s all about what you pair them with. Just check out Sarah’s post (Jeggings aren’t just for skinny girls)-doesn’t she look amazing? I prefer my Gap jeggings to the ones that are leggings that look like jeans (no pockets). They are super comfortable, and work with just about anything!

2) Scarves
It’s cold where I am, and even if you’re in a more warm area you can still rock scarves. They really dress up an otherwise plain shirt. Try a lightweight cashmere scarf like this one from Land’s End that looks big enough to double as a shawl. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect chunky ivory scarf, but I’m betting I can find one on super deep discount at the end of the season. I’m tempted to try an infinity or loop scarf though truth be told I would probably end up tangled in it!

3) Cardigans
If you’re like me you may have shirts you can’t bear to part with even though they shrunk a bit in the dryer, or you may have picked up some of those tissue tees (read-see through) without realizing it. Cardi to the rescue! You can spruce up a look you love with a cute cardigan you can wear over multiple items. They are also great to have on hand as another layer to beat the cold. Even better if you shop now it’s likely you’ll find in season stuff for 50-90% off what you would have paid just a month or so ago! Personally I’m excited to see spring colors go on sale so I can add some life into my colorless winter wardrobe.

4) Inexpensive jewelry
While diamonds may be a girls best friend they are hardly budget friendly! Try stores that carry hot trends like H&M, Forever 21, Ann Taylor, Loft, and Target for cute and inexpensive pieces. One of my favorite places to buy statement pieces is Banana Republic. They usually have a great selection of discounted jewelry.

5) Cute shoes
Every girl likes cute shoes, and you can totally change up your look with a pair of amazing boots, or adorable ballet flats. I really love looking at places like Gap and Banana for sale shoes since I wear a size not many people buy. If you’re stuck in a mid range size though look for some cute flats like the ones below. My favorite tip for winter? Wear those snow boots, but when you get inside change into more comfortable and chic flats.

What are your favorite ways to spruce up your wardrobe without breaking the bank?

I love the idea of fabric flowers as accessories.

I love shopping at Banana Republic (clearly) but especially for sale handbags. You can find some amazing bags for under $50!

I think it’s the new mom uniform-no more mom jeans. :)
