California Wine Club reached out to me recently to see if I would be interested in trying their Premium Club membership. Yes, my work involves drinking wine right now (did I mention I have the best job, ever).
All kidding aside one of the main reasons I chose to share my experiences with California Wine Club is because I’m also able to offer my awesome readers a giveaway AND discount as well. Now, that’s something to drink to! (see below for more info)
When I was first contacted I shared that sadly I was located in Pennsylvania where liquor laws are confusing and mean you have to drive to a standalone store for any type of alcohol generally. What is California Wine Club?
California Wine Club is wine subscription service that ships bottles to members once a month. Last month I received two bottles Zinman Zinfandel and a Chardonnay. Both came from Perry Creek Winery, in California (of course!). Their price points are relatively reasonable. The wine club itself is even more reasonable and covers the cost of shipping which saves me a ton of time.
I was curious how wine would be shipped since I have only once had wine shipped. The packaging was phenomenal. The wine was packed in a box with a thick and study styrofoam container where the wine was placed. That instantly became a number of toys for my 5 year old (who was home when I received the package). Within minutes they were binoculars, a megaphone, a boat for a toy, and so many other things I couldn’t keep up.
The Wine Review
The wine itself was lovely. I actually preferred the Zinfandel to the Chardonnay which suprised me since I’m usually a fan of white wine. I liked it because it was bolder and had a sharp but not unpleasant taste. I paired it with chocolate when I first drank it, and think that helped sway my decision. I also drank some with a late dinner after the kids were in bed-a nice small piece of steak. Both great pairings. The Chardonnay I paired with a salad one evening and it was light and refreshing paired with the salad. On its’ own it lacked some of the fruity flavors I prefer. Overall the Chardonnay was a bit to mellow for me, I prefer a white that is a bit fruitier, and drier.
I’m excited to continue to try the wine club for the next two months and will be sharing my thoughts on next month’s selection as well. While I did receive 3 month’s membership courtesy of CA Wine Club, I think I may just be hooked, and they’ve won a customer for life.
