I’m in New York City at SaveUp 2011, a conference thrown by Savings.com. There are about 40 DealPros here, sponsors and of course the awesome folks from Savings. We had a blast last night eating way too much food and doing karoke, and today is all about learning from the super smart staff at Savings.

My Savings Story

Savings asked the DealPros to share our savings stories-this is my story. In 2007 my family moved into a new home, and with tons of work to do on the house and growing kids our expenses kept increasing. As a stay at home mom I was in charge of the day to day spending and the bill paying, and realized I needed to learn more about personal finance and be smarter about our spending. As I read blogs and books, I started sharing what I was learning with friends and in forums online where I shared my own tips and advice. I quickly realized that I needed to have a place to collect all that information to share with others.

With the support of my husband and advice I read in ProBlogger’s book, I launched a way to collect all the information I was learning -my blog, the Centsible Life. What started as a place for me to collect the information became a resource for readers, and eventually a way to earn more.

In the last two years we’ve made great strides in paying down our debt and making smarter financial decisions, but we still have a ways to go. That’s what keeps me motivated to keep sharing what I’m learning. I know firsthand that there is no magic wand you can wave to make your debt disappear. There is no magical solution to earning more or living more centsibly. It takes time, careful planning, and lots of work.

Now I balance life as a mother of 4, wife, and entrepreneur.  Every day we make choices that help us pay down debt, save more, and live a fuller life on a budget. My goal with the Centsible Life is to help you (my awesome readers) live well on less.
