Downtime & Malware

January 31, 2012

in announcements

If you tried to visit the site yesterday you may have come across a big red page that said malware was attached to my site, or you may have seen nothing.

Yesterday the server had unexpected downtime but I’ve been assured that this issue was taken care of. The site was also hacked, and thanks to two trusty tech friends was given a clean bill of health. It took time for Google to reprocess the site, but the Centisble Life now has a clean bill of health.

I apologize for both issues, and hope <knock on wood> that going forward there won’t be any issues. Excuse the number of posts that will be going up today too, as I make up for lost time.

Best of luck fixing this problem Kelly.  Oftentimes there is some script hidden somewhere in your code that will bring that malware back even when you think you’ve fixed it.  You may want to consider outsourcing the cleanup to a pro at this kind of stuff.  By spending a little money on the fix, you get more assurance that the problem is completely gone.

Also, you may want to check your folder write permissions.  Back when this happened to me, it was due to leaving folders open for anyone to write to.  So even after changing passwords, the hacker still had access to changing my files.
