ID theft is a very serious matter and according to recent statistics child identity theft is on the rise. It’s frightening to think that your kids could start off their lives with terrible credit because someone stole their identity, but it happens more often than you think.
I’ve personally had my debit card stolen and while my bank was quick to rectify the mistake and the charges were reversed it was still a huge hassle to get it all fixed. Identity theft doesn’t offer such a quick fix though. Because criminals have your social security number and other identifying information it’s easier for them to keep scamming, and destroying your credit in the process.
Most ID theft is uncovered only after much of the damage has been done, but when you’re dealing with your child’s identity it could be years until you figure out that they were the victim of ID theft.

Enter kID Sure. For more than 10 years Identity Guard has been helping to protect people from identity theft with technology that alerts you to activity involving your personal information. kID Sure is allows you to monitor your child’s ID with the same technology that Identity Guard uses.
When they approached me to be an ambassador I was intrigued. While we monitor our credit regularly we’ve found that the hoops involved in getting our kid’s credit reports was rather difficult.
Signing up for Identity Guard and kID Sure:
Signing up for Identity Guard was a fairly simple process. I provided information about myself and my identity to verify who I am, and almost instantly was able to see a dashboard which included my credit score, report, and monitoring, an ID risk Assessment, Public Records, and more. I’m able to keep track of my credit score at all three reporting agencies, and receive emails updates when my credit is pulled or any updates are made. You can sign up for a free 2 week trail, and thereafter it’s $9.99-$17.99/month. For more details on the tiers and their features see this page.
kID Sure is only accessible after you sign up for Identity Guard. You provide personal identifying information for your children, and receive a report on your child and a risk assessment. Available at $4.99/month per child, it offers peace of mind for parents.
What happens if kID Sure detects activity?
After signing up for myself, and adding accounts for all 4 of my kids I found that one of my children’s accounts requires proof of guardianship.

I’m submitting my paperwork to Identity Guard today so that I can access the information, and find out what information is there. I’ll be updating over the next few weeks with more information on what we find out, as well as ways you can avoid ID theft, and keep your child’s ID out of the hands of criminals.
