At EVO it wasn’t just about social media, I learned a lot about myself, social media, and made some amazing connections with people. Before I give you the long, rambly run down of what I did, saw and learned, here are my top 10 things I learned at EVO. This is dedicated to those of you with internet ADD.
10 things I learned from EVO 2010
10. Utah is gorgeous, and Mormons aren’t like the people on Big Love.
9. Gathering with a group of people who really “get” what you do can be life affirming.
8. People you know online will be more amazing than you ever imagined in person-especially if you get to really spend time with them.
7. Careening down a mountain sounds scary, but is really, really fun. (see Mommy Niri for more)
6. Everyone does the 2nd hello a lot. It goes like this:
“Hi, I’m Kelly. What’s your name?”
“Hi, I’m Mrs. X. <shakes hands or hugs lightly> What’s your twitter handle?”
“@CentsibleLife”
“OMG! I KNOW you!!!! I’m @MrsX!”
Begin jumping up and down, big hugs, laughs, and instant best friendship.
5. You will end up in a car, gondola, chair, or bed with someone you barely know. (and no I don’t mean in that way)
4. Social media means a lot of different things to different people, and almost everyone has a unique perspective and a different story to tell.
3. Sleep is overrated. (well until you get home)
2. The parties are almost as informative as the sessions.
1. If you are crazy enough jumping into a pool with your clothes on will sound like a good idea. About 30 other people will join you, and it will all be documented. (we are in social media after all) For the record we are professional even when we are soaking wet. See?
