Mabel’s Labels introduced a contest, Mabel’s Labels BlogHer ‘10 Contest, this week that I’m super excited to participate in! The winner will get sponsorship to BlogHer ’10 in NYC (I’m going, already bought my ticket!), and a one year paid blogging gig. (I didn’t know you could blog for money-interesting! ;) )

Here’s an adorable video introducing the contest:

The contestants have to write a post using this subject:

Electrical storms are going to wipe out the Internet (perhaps forever). You have one day left to write about your passions: what do you want to say to the blogosphere in 300 words or less?

Here’s my entry:

Hi internet, it’s me Kelly. We’ve had a long and colorful history together. From the early days of AOL dial-up to my dearly beloved iPhone you have stuck by me. I’ll miss you, but mostly I’ll miss the people that I connect with all over the world who I’ll never get to talk to again. :(

When I think about what I’m passionate about two things immediately come to mind: my family (who I’m sure will see me through this great loss), and social media.

My family is the reason for everything I do, and I wouldn’t have my family without the amazing husband I have. While I could go on about him all day, I will sum it up: thank you, honey you have made my life into something with meaning, and we will be seeing a lot more of each other now. I hope you don’t get sick of me.

My other passion will always be social media, even after it’s gone. I love the way that social media, from blogs to twitter, from forums to Facebook connects people to others across oceans, race, gender, and age.

Now that the internet may be gone forever, those of us who thrive on social media and connection in an almost ADD way will have to find our fix in other ways. I’m sure somewhere, someone will come up with a replacement. It will be something amazing, and huge, and wonderful in a way we can’t imagine, but until then you all have an invitation to come camp out on my living room floor, and we’ll spend our time going through withdrawl from twitter together. Maybe I’ll even write that book I’ve been dreaming about since I was 7.

Goodbye, interwebz it’s been swell, I’ll always love you.

Kelly

Disclosure: This is a contest entry. You really don’t have an invitation to sleep on my floor since it’s too cold, and likely my husband would kick me out if I invited thousands of people over, but maybe you could sleep in a tent in the 3 feet of snow in my backyard.

I think it’s great that you have clarity on what drives you. That makes it super easy to invoke whatever head movies or visuals or words of inspiration whenever you need to … and get back on the horse when you get knocked down.
