Last night was National Mom’s Nite Out (no I’m not kidding-it really was!) so when Shannon shared a fun shopping event at J. Crew I knew where I would be headed! I rarely make time to go shopping, like every mom I’m usually last on my to do list. With some speaking engagements (Type A Mom) and fun events lined up over the next few months though, I need to continually add to my ‘wardrobe’ so I have some choices when it comes time to head to a conference or be on a TV show.
As a frugally minded shopper I am always conscious of both price and quality. I have purchased dresses I love that were $10 but shrunk, or purchased ones for $100 I only wore once, so I try to be more balanced in my shopping by finding pieces I can wear again and again without them looking the same every time. I created my ‘look book’ for that reason as well. That way when I’m packing light I have options like wearing the same cardigan over completely different outfits.
J. Crew was offering us a great deal. 20% off anything-even if it was marked down or had a special promotion. We also got personalized fashion advice from our personal shopper Lauren and Brooke. They couldn’t have been more helpful. It was a totally different experience than shopping on my own or even with friends. They put together looks that I wouldn’t have come up with on my own, and I loved Brooke’s tip to get some super slim tanks to go under shirts (a look I love) even with dressier tops it works.
Here are some of the finds I brought home or tried on and loved.
Chambray shirt–never thought I would like this-but it looked great on!
Serenade dress in Orange–not my typical color, but loved it on, and at $25 after discounts I couldn’t go wrong!
Swirling Dots dress–I tried this on and loved it, but at $89.99 on sale I just couldn’t justify it yet. We’ll see if the price comes down.
Pink (yes pink!) chinos–again I wouldn’t have thought these would be so right, but I love them! At $32-they weren’t cheap but definitely a great value for quality.
And this dress? I fell in love the second I saw it, and had to try it on, but at $158 even with a 20% discount I couldn’t justify it. If I had someplace to wear it (upcoming wedding etc) I would have definitely picked it up. Though the personal shoppers and my friends said I could wear it everyday, that’s not exactly my lifestyle at the moment. 😉 I’m definitely going to stalk it though-it’s too pretty to pass up!
