Goatdance mat typing

As a homeschooling mom (and a mom that likes to work with the kids when they aren’t in school) we are always looking for fun things to do. Especially things that teach the kids useful skills (Wii doesn’t count), AND get them to be quiet for 10 minutes at a time.

A friend turned us onto this program years ago. It’s a FREE program offered on the BBC’s site.

Dance Mat Typing is a fun way to learn to type. The only catch is you want to make sure your child finishes a level before they get off the computer, as there is no way to save their progress.

I’ll admit that my typing was always pretty poor.  I used the program a few times to train myself to look at the screen instead of the keyboard. Now I can type and look at the kids, and hold a conversation with them, so it seems I’m doing nothing, but I’m actually on twitter. :)

Check out the program here.

It looks like they have some other cool areas on the site including a basic French program, and a history program (remember it’s from the perspective of the Brits, so they may color the Revolutionary War a bit differently than Americans).

This is NOT a paid endorsement, paid review, or a post that was solicited in any way. I just happen to think the program is pretty cool, and effective.
