Around the Web: Rainy Saturday Edition

Today is a lazy morning-no work for me, and pouring rain outside. I’ll be spending the day inside putting together a bed frame for the little guy and fixing up his room, and moving my desk to our bedroom. I’ll show you the before and after later. I hope you have a lovely Saturday!

Free Money Finance on Starting a Pet Savings Account: We have yet to start a pet savings account. I’m using our mini emergency fund to cover pet emergencies for now. Once the puppy expenses slow down we will be contributing $100/month to a special pet emergency fund.

Zen Habits on Beating Discontentment: My favorite tip declutter for 5 minutes. I love to declutter when I’m feeling stagnant or frustrated, it makes me feel like I’m getting something DONE, and I can see the difference.

Unclutterer on Living Without a Dresser: We lived without dressers for many years. It always seemed like a purchase we could put off. We all now have dressers (except the little guy). I’m a big clothes purger, I do it so I don’t end up with a pile of laundry as high as the ceiling.

Still Tasty is “your ultimate shelf life guide,” they can tell you if that can of expired beans is still edible, and how long your milk keeps after the “sell By” date. Definitely a bookmarkable site.

Consumerist on Saving Money by Not Touching Stuff in The Store: I LOVE this advice. It makes a lot of sense. This was easier when we had little teeny ones and babies, I always had my hands literally full then! Now I try to keep my hands busy by pushing a cart or holding a hand.

Consumerist on 5 Big Retail Markups: My favorite way to save is by purchasing a stainless steel straw cup for the kiddos, or a Kleen Kanteen for the adults. We filter our own water and save a bundle.

Get Rich Slowly on The Power of Product Packaging: Bottom line, we are ALL effected by advertising. The more you can avoid your exposure the better, but some will still get through. Make sure that you try to separate the advertising from your needs/wants. This is super important to teach children.

Fly Away Family on Hosting a Clothing Swap: We have participated in toy/book swaps, clothing swaps, and treat swaps. All are great ways to declutter and get new to you things, as well as keep stuff out of the landfills.

Enjoy your Saturday! Off to wrestle with the kids. :)

  • Thanks for this interesting collection of links - who would have thought to avoid touching the stuff if you don't want to buy ... or avoid trying them on too :-)

Thanks for linking to my clothing swap post! What a nice thing to wake up to! And coincidentally, I am currently wearing a shirt from this year's swap and pants from last year's swap! Happy Easter!
