Paycheck Stimulus

in money

The hubby just sent me an email forwarded from his HR department.

Apparently starting with our next paycheck we will see a reduction in our withholding from the stimulus package. We should gross an extra $40/paycheck. Now usually I’d be complaining about what a measly sum that is, but that’s $800 for the year that we can save or throw at our debt. I just have to pretend it’s not there.

Most employers will take care of the changes without you lifting a finger, but you may want to check with your employer’s HR department to find out more. While you are there consider filing a new W4 if you got a hefty return. I still have to figure out if we need to change ours. We got a return, but I changed the W4 midway through the year, and now I’m working part-time. I’ll have to run the numbers today.

As far as arguments about how well the stimulus package will work out I’m no expert, but I do have a strong belief that we need to give our new President a little time to work on fixing things before we pass judgment. This mess didn’t happen in a short time frame and it will take a lot of work to fix things.

Snowflakes! These are part of all of the little things that add up to pay off debt! I agree, it took some time to get to where we are, and it will take a whole lot longer to get out of this mess.

I am glad to see you are still focused on your future.Good Job!

James, snowflakes right! We have a lot of them outside. LOL

I like that it will bring our monthly extra debt payments to a round number. I like round numbers!

I’m confused, it’s your husband’s job but “our next paycheck”?

    Yes, Rex.
We are a team, we’re married.
He works, and I stay home and take care of the kids, and support his career. He supports me staying home by working hard.
So either you aren’t married, or you don’t share nice.

Amen. I’m the higher-earner in our team, but I don’t think about it as my money vs. his money (unless I’m budgeting, in which case we try to live entirely off my paycheck and his goes to debt repayment).

We’re working together toward the life we want. And right now, that means him doing research and writing a dissertation as well as teaching part time. Like raising kids, writing a dissertation is a lot of work. Perhaps people without kids or without spouses writing dissertations don’t realize it.
