I wrote a similar article a while back. I used to be one of the people who just looked at price but my wife has turned me onto the value of some brands, the ones where you are paying for more than the nameplate.

I spave on gifts. I buy gifts sometimes months in advance, when there's a good deal and I can get a great price. Sometimes I buy with people in mind, but I also have a large stack of gifts that are good for a wide range of kids, both boys and girls, that I can just grab whenever I am surprised by a birthday.

This is great because the cost of running out to buy a birthday present is significant in both monetary expense AND in the time lost while doing it. And I can afford to be a bit more generous, because the gifts I'm giving appear to be worth about $20, when they cost me about half that.

Wow, Lyme Disease...I would definitely say that is worth spending money on to avoid!

The way I would say I "spave" most often is when I stock up on food items when they go on sale. Or when I buy kid clothes in the next size up at the end of season sales. Or when I spend a big chunk of cash at consignment sales on clothes, shoes, books & toys (that can be saved for Christmas/bdays).

I save a lot this way.

I'm sure I've spent bigger money to save, but I just can't think of anything right now. We did bite the bullet and buy plane tickets earlier this year when Qantas was having a big sale. The savings were just too good to pass up. So, we just picked some dates for over Christmas and went for it. We've never bought tickets that far in advance before. So, I guess that was 'spaving', huh?
