5/day clutter challenge (wrap-up)

in update

My challenge was a success! I got rid of over 5 things a day in the month of August.

There was a lot of this during the month of August:

train building

What you can’t see is the arguing, the fighting, and general we-are-bored-of-summer-vacation craziness that happened. There was blood, lots of tears, some bruises, and some time outs. And that was only me!

My hope was that I would get through the whole house one room at a time, and I’d start September clutter-free.

Let’s just say that things like this get in the way.

laundry day

Despite all that, I still managed to get rid of 5 things a day. But can you believe that’s not enough? Though there are 6 of us living here, I try to keep things simple. Clearly there are forces at work against me.

I’m going to continue my 5/day challenge through this month. I still have winter/fall clothes to sort, the kitchen, the basement, and the garage to sort through. I’m actually looking forward to it, since 2 of the kids are in school, and 1 more will be soon.

How did you do with the 5/day challenge? If you didn’t participate why not start today? For more details check out my original post: 5/day clutter challenge.

I hope I’m still not doing this in 2010!

    Kelly,

Good ideas How can I get rid of wicker tables, chair, coffee table/chest? Will you sell them at garage sale?
I need to get rid of antique chairs but after visiting antique shops they only want the french chair, so would you like
these for your family, green chair in family rocker for girls?

    Love MOM
  • What a great challenge! I seem to be on my own decluttering phase myself. I did my bedroom, bookcase, daughter's room. Next is the kitchen, the linen closet... I may and try to tackle the garage but I think that should be more my hubby's job. LOL.

Have fun with continuing your 5 a day challenge!
  • I missed out on the original challenge but I love the idea. 5 items seems so doable! Now how to get the kiddos on board?
  • Kate, I think my kids are used to it since I declutter often, but if your kids aren't on board I can offer some suggestions. In fact that would make a great post! I'll send you an email when it's up. :)

I am continuing this mission as well. I had some setbacks since I was not feeling well at times. But I usually made up for it by overcompensating other days. I still have a lot to do, but feeling great about the progress made so far. Thanks for your blog!!!
  • The 5 things a day challenge sounds like a fun idea. Great way to get clutter-free.

Heh.... well, if you total up everything I got rid of the day before you posted the challenge, and the stuff we went through the first week or so... I might have got enough for 5 things a day... but I'm definitely going to keep going... I made a list of things to chuck while we were in FLA... I'm loving getting rid of stuff !!!
  • WOW - you did great! I have to say I really liked this challenge. In fact, I'm planning on continuing my decluttering challenge into September. My house looks better already!
