I haven’t been shopping much lately. Clothing shopping, that is. I find that in summer I recycle a lot of my old t-shirts and cute tanks. I may buy a pair or two of shorts or a new little skirt, but, for the most part, summer is about recycled comfort. Yet, every day, I manage to dress it up a bit with accessories because it’s not about what you wear, it’s how you wear it that makes your look fresh and new.
Here’s a list of summer accessories that will have your t-shirts and shorts dressed fresh and new.
Affordable Accessories Under $50 Fashion Friday
A light-weight summer scarf will keep you warm during chilly and windy nights and weekends. Look for one with a little punch of pattern in neutral colors. Infinity scarves, like this one from GAP, on sale for $18.86, are on-trend this summer, and so easy to wear–you’ll never need to worry about tying it right.
A few summers ago, specific style gave way personal style when it came to shoes, and this summer is no different. You’ll find hot looks in everything from wedges to pumps to flip flops and thongs. If you’re only buying one new pair, what’s important is a punch of color among neutrals. Add one pair of new shoes that are neutral enough to wear with just about everything. Strappy wedge sandals for under $50 include these Crocs Leigh Graphic Wedge sandals when you use code CAMP15 to save 15% though midnight, June 6.
Flats are super stylish right now, too, especially thong-style flats. Adding embellishment or shine to your flip-flops updates your feet and helps you to create the finished look. The Disco Sandal by Dolce Vita is a Nordstrom Exclusive at $39.95. For embellished style, the Rampage Women’s Deanika Dress Sandal, $29.95 at Amazon, are another option for dressing up and finishing your look with a shoe accessory.
The Right Earrings
Earrings frame your face, and the right earrings will frame and compliment. This guide helps you find the right style earring for your face shape, so if you’ll only purchase one pair this summer, get one that will work best for your face.
Hoops and studs are great for almost everyone’s face. Be sure your jewelry box has a pair of classic studs,$24, which will work with nearly every outfit. Another staple, hoops, like these Sculpted Metal Hoops ($28, available in silver or gold) are another easy, affordable go-to look. Both the studs and hoops will take you from the office or a parent/teacher meeting to a night at a show or a dinner at a 5-star restaurant.
A great way to afford accessories is to purchase convertible accessories that offer more than one look. Convertible accessories offer more than one option for wearing. Chloe + Isabel’s 3-Row Paillette Graduated Pendant, $48, (available in silver or gold) allows 7 options in one $48 purchase. Each chain can be worn independently or combined in sets of 2 or the full set of three, depending on the look you’re after.
A Chic Wallet
This summer, as you switch from beach bag to pool bag to shopping bag, do it with a chic wallet. For the past 4 years, I’ve used the Merona Printed Hard-Case Wallet , $12.99, and every time I take it out to use it, which is often, I receive compliments. So many, in fact, that I often shop without a purse, just using my wallet as my accessory.’
