As I mentioned in my last post, I’m in the process of moving house, and it feels like it’s never-ending. I still have items at my old house that are gradually making their way to the new one.
The room I’ve been working on over the past week is the loft. It’s quite a large space located between all of the bedrooms that will be a crafting space for the kids and I. Seeing as the room is just a large blank canvas with no cupboards, shelving or storage in it I’ve had to start getting creative with fitting everything in. Here are my simple sewing room storage ideas.
In particular, I want to show you the tray that I’ve mounted on the wall that will hold all of the small items I use often when I’m sewing.
At our old house this tray was used in the living room above the fireplace, which I absolutely loved, but the mantel in this house is much higher and so the configuration I had at the old house just didn’t fit.
It seemed too plain to just hang on the white wall above the sewing table though, I felt that it need a little more color. So, using scrapbook paper and Mod Podge I added a little color into just a few of the compartments.
Simply lay small pieces of scrapbook paper over the top of the compartments so you can decide which ones you want to fill, measure them, cut the scrapbook paper to size and use Mod Podge to adhere it to the inside of the compartment. Add a layer of Mod Podge over the top once dry to protect it too.
I have more items I want to place in this (once I find them in the packing boxes of course), but for now it is the perfect place to put my tape measures, my pin cushion wrist strap and little bottles.
The yellow frame next to it I purchased on a whim, but this would also be very easy to whip up. All you would need is a frame, wire, and small wood pegs from a craft store.
I plan on using this to hang patterns, notes, fabric swatches, ribbons and other items that I want to use for a project I’m working on without them taking up space on the sewing table.
