Moving house is such a daunting task. If you are like me you’ve accumulated so much over the years and it all fits perfectly into the home you’ve been living in, but what happens when you move to a new home, is it all going to fit, or will you have to sell or donate a lot of it?
I’ve been donating items every single day, bag after bag of toys and clothes, furniture items, decor and knickknacks. It feels like such a waste, to have purchased these items once up on a time, only to give them up because there is no longer room, or they simply don’t ‘fit’ into your new home, whether it be due to size, color, or layout.
There have been a few items I’ve hung onto though, knowing that I can re-purpose them into something else. One of these items is a white umbrella stand I purchased a long time ago. It’s now become a plant for our entry way.
Yes, it was white when I purchased it. The white however was too stark against most of my decor, but I absolutely loved the pattern on it, so it was given a couple of coats of brown paint and weathered ever so slightly.
Rocks were placed into the bottom for drainage, and then the stand was filled with potting soil.
I chose four succulents of varying sizes to place into the planter – one larger one which I pushed into the back, two medium-sized in the front, and then scattered throughout are a series of small plants to fill in the gaps so that the soil isn’t exposed.
I think it’s a lovely addition to our entrance, which is quite long.
On the next wall I plan on putting hooks for backpacks, coats and umbrellas, and bins or a bench for shoe storage.
I may even include more art on the walls here as I’m unpacking boxes and moving things around.
What do visitors see as they enter your home?
