First Day of School: Mom Monday

August 29, 2011 By Kelly 10 Comments

Hurricane Irene blew through our area on Saturday night, and with it blew out our power for about 20 hours, and with it the sureness that school would be starting today. Thankfully we had no other damage, and most of the area damage were tree limbs that fell onto yards, and lost power.

We got an early wakeup call from the school district saying that school was in fact on, and despite some hiccups, and an overly energetic 9 year old, everyone is out the door and off to school.

My kids are all in school for the first time in nearly 14 years, and I’m both ecstatic and terribly sad to not have these little people around me all day.

The little guy is only half day, so at least I can hold onto my baby for a little bit longer. 😉

Excuse me while I go cry in my cup of coffee.

Kelly

Disclosure: 13 year old not pictured, because well, he’s 13.

My 2nd grader, Ava, started on Monday, and my….my…..BABY….Tess, started kindergarten today. All I keep thinking is “My BABY got on a BUS and rode AWAY FROM ME!” I’m counting down the minutes until the bus drops her off at 12:32pm today!!! I’ll be posting the “first day of school” pics at http://www.poppylaneartworks.com (formerly http://www.craysor.com!)

I will be on the receiving end of all those young smiling faces in about ten days. I will teaching middle school this Fall. I hope they are still smiling and enthusiastic after the first few days!

Wow-that’s awesome! Thank you for being someone that cares so much about kids. Middle school, too? That’s such a tough phase of life, but I’m sure with you as their teacher they will still be smiling. :)

Aw, I bet you will be! Best thing to do is distract yourself. I hear retail therapy helps. 😉
