Give Experience Gifts with LivingSocial

Experience gifts make amazing holiday gifts. Giving the gift of a spa day, wine tasting, evening out, or something more thrilling like flying lessons or race car driving can make the holidays special. Then there are the kids on your list. Experience gifts make wonderful gifts for the kids on your list, too. Gifts like museum memberships, passes to play spaces, and so much more are sure to make their holiday special.

Finding experience gifts on a budget can be a challenge, but by shopping on LivingSocial you will not only get great gifting ideas, but you’ll find great prices.

LivingSocial’s Gift Shop is the destination for holiday shopping that is outside the gift box! Wouldn’t it be great to give zip line adventures instead of zippered cardigans or a hot air balloon ride rather than a winter hat? With LivingSocial, yeah, you can gift that!

Q&A with LivingSocial Gifting Expert, Elizabeth Hebda

Readers shared their questions with me and LivingSocial’s gifting expert, Elizabeth Hebda, shared some great gift ideas in response. I share reader questions and her ideas below. (and keep reading for your own opportunity to give an experience gift!)

Many readers wrote in with this question. Not only are parents and in-laws hard to shop for, but they often have everything they want or need. So what’s a gift giver to do?

Q: What do you get for the parents or in-laws that have everything?

A. Experiences are perfect gifting going beyond traditional presents, like ties and sweaters, and giving unexpected and fun experiences. These may include activities like spa vacations, art shows, theatre tickets, or a ski or beach getaway.

For busy parents and in-laws, consider an experience that can reduce stress and help them enjoy some “me” time, like a couples massage or a wine tasting event.

Another question that many parents had was what to get their child’s caregiver.

Q. What do I get the kids’ nanny/babysitter? She does so much for our family!

A. The kids’ nanny (or sitter) is sure to have done a lot for your family, as well as her own. It’s about time she relishes in some time for herself. Surprise her with an afternoon off to enjoy at a local spa for a manicure, pedicure, and facial. LivingSocial has great ideas for relaxation and beauty services you can gift at a value.

This one was not only asked by readers, but I had the same question. My kids have plenty of everything, so what do we get them?

Q. What do you get for the young child who has plenty of toys?

A. I don’t have kids of my own, but I know for a fact my nieces and nephews do not need another toy – or another moment in front of the TV or iPad. Get them out of the house and moving with experiential gifts that keep them active and learning. What kid wouldn’t love horseback riding, soccer camp, or an ice skating class? Also gives you time carved out for those pesky errands!

So many of you asked about husbands and what to get the guy who has it all.

Q. I’m so stuck on what to get my husband! He’s impossible to shop for, and he buys himself everything he needs or wants-what’s a wife to do?

A. Ferrari test-drive anyone? Yeah, you can gift that and other out-of-the-box experiences at LivingSocial. No matter where you live, there are great ideas that will whet your hubby’s appetite for adventure, like rock climbing, surfing, even flying lessons.

What do you buy when you know they have a hobby, but it’s a pricey hobby? Our gifting expert has some ideas.

Q. What do you buy for the in laws that love golf, but on a budget?

A. From a driving range session to a private golf lesson, both can be budget-friendly if you’re buying from the right place. And for the golf enthusiast with budget to spare, golf getaways are available in select locations!

Teens are tough to shop for-they often want pricier items like electronics or gaming systems, so what can get them that’s goes beyond a gift card and that remains budget-friendly?

Q. What do I get the teenager who is into gaming without spending a fortune?

A. Sounds like a budding thrill seeker to us! Encourage them to get a taste of the action firsthand by gifting them an experience that will get their blood rushing, such as go-karting, paintball, or helicopter tour.

Now those are some GREAT gifting ideas!
