“Let’s all congratulate us with another cup of tea
A very merry unbirthday to you!
Now, statistics prove, prove that you’ve one birthday
Imagine, just one birthday every year
Ah, but there are three hundred and sixty four unbirthdays!
Precisely why we’re gathered here to cheer
A very merry unbirthday to you, to you.
-lyrics from Walt Disney’s Alice In Wonderland
We’re big fans of celebrations. We love to decorate, bake, and have an excuse to have a party. Sometimes we can find a holiday to celebrate or a special occasion, and sometimes we celebrate just because. We call those parties ‘unbirthdays’ after the Alice in Wonderland song. When Reddi-wip contacted me and asked to sponsor a post about budget-friendly birthdays I knew it was the perfect excuse for an un-birthday party! I was asked to participate in the Reddi-wip #PartyReddi. Although I have been compensated, all opinions are my own.
How to Have an UnbirthdayParty
Pick a Theme
The first step to a good party is to center it around a theme or season. Since we were celebrating an unbirthday we thought it would be fun to have a fall theme. You can pick any theme, no theme, or mix up themes with an unbirthday! That’s one of the best things about it! So you can mix those leftover Minecraft decorations with the My Little Pony decorations and make it a mixed up unbirthday.
Make it Sweet
No party is complete without something sweet. We picked a pound cake though there were tons of options at our local Walmart including cupcakes, fun flavors of pound cake like pumpkin and cranberry apple, and angel food cake.
These were in the refrigerated section of our local store. We simply allowed it to thaw for about an hour before eating. You could also warm it up slightly in the oven to make it feel freshly baked. Shhhh, I won’t tell anyone if you don’t! 😉
Most importantly having an un-birthday is about having fun. The kids don’t need a perfectly set table or fancy dinnerware to have fun, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself to make things pinterest perfect.
We ate, laughed, talked, and had a dance break. After the party was over we played some games. It was a great way to celebrate an ordinary afternoon.
Save Big by Shopping at Walmart
For supplies for our unbirthday party we headed to our local Walmart for items including: a cake, Reddi-wip, ice cream, and tons of snacks. We also hit up the birthday party aisle and found a ton of great party supplies including streamers, plates, tablecloths, and more all in our fall colors. All for big savings, of course!
