First of all, I have to thank everyone who emailed, messaged me, commented, or reached out in the billions of ways we have to connect to offer their prayers, support, or just a hearty, “I’ve been there,” in response to my post about dealing with depression. It means the world to me to know I’m not alone. My ‘IRL’ family and friends have been awesome as well (shoutout to the hubby for being my rock), but I wanted to thank all my internet peeps as well.
This post {Tips to Keep your Sh*t Together When You’re Depressed} about ways to deal with depression was helpful to me personally, but it’s also helpful for those of you who aren’t depressed. 1 in 5 people suffers from depression, so chances are highly likely that you know someone who could use your shoulder to lean on.
Now onto the insomnia. A big piece of being healthy is getting a good night of sleep. Lately, I have been having a LOT of trouble falling asleep. For the last two weeks I’ve been tracking what I’m doing that may or may not cause it. It seems to come and go. Some nights I’m tired and ready for bed at 10pm, read a little, and conk out. Most nights I can’t fall asleep, and when it eventually starts bothering my husband, I move to our super comfy couch so my tossing and turning doesn’t bother him.
I have tried melatonin, tea, meditation, and many other tricks and tips, but none seem to work. Eventually I turn on the TV in the hopes that it will lull me to sleep (as it sometimes does), and also to stave off boredom.
I’m not sure if it’s the weather changing, allergy medication, my anti-depressants or the increase in the amount of exercise I’m doing, but it’s starting to wear on me.
I plan to make a doctor’s appointment, but I think in part I need to do some sleuthing to figure out if I can get rid of it by exercising like a fiend (which would be good for me too!), or decreasing the amount of coffee I drink (though I’m not sure my family will survive).
In the meantime my days look a lot like this…
Any advice? TV shows that are must-sees when I’m up at 2am? Good books that are engaging but no so engrossing I’ll stay up all night?

I have no idea what works, but I would love an answer! I have the same issues where it comes and goes, sleeping on the couch to not bother my husband, etcetera. It is irritating though.
