Last year we did a little ‘redo’ of our master bedroom. It was inexpensive (under $250) and the impact was mainly thanks to paint, paint, and more paint. We were far from done though. We need a new bed frame, mattress, bedding, and some decor. So I’m laying out a new plan for our bedroom and a budget. It may take us a few months to get there, but I’m excited to finalize this space as a chic and comfortable getaway from our hectic schedules.

Here’s my inspiration board for the master bedroom. I’m calling it Nautical Romance. There’s a bit of nautical in the metal, decor, and color scheme, and the romance comes from the lush fabrics and the comfy bed.

The Bed
The centerpiece of the room while be the bed since mainly what we do in our room is sleep. 🙂 I’ve always loved the old world style of metal bed frames. I threw in option two because I like the mix of fabric and metal-it looks like it would be more comfortable to lean on when I’m sitting in bed to read. I have considered DIY’ing a bedframe, but I am not sure I’m up for that big of a project. Here’s a great DIY bed tutorial (and look at that gorgeous finished product!) from View Along the Way.
Furniture
While we have two dressers currently (a tall one and a long one) that are similar in tone and style to the ones above, I’m debating replacing them for one long dresser and reusing the others in one of the kids’ rooms. A deeper and slightly taller one would still fit all our stuff, but allow us some additional room in our bedroom to maintain a King-sized bed. Additionally while we have two tables that act as bedside tables I’m considering these beefier options with drawers for extra storage. We’ve never had proper bedside tables so this would be a nice addition.
The desk we already have, and the chair above is similar in style and color to an antique chair I have from my Nana. It’s a great mix of the white and modern desk with the black, antique chair.
Textiles
Aside from curtains we need all new textiles too. Sheets, comforter, and a rug. I’ve chosen a few ideas but I’m not set on anything yet. I’m kind of liking the idea of the warm taupey color on the wall mixed with the the crisp white trim, the metal accents, and navy blue. It’s a bit nautical without being cheesy or over the top. I think the rug will really bring it all together, but sadly this rug is way over budget, and all the ones I have found that are similar are super-pricey too. Any tips on finding large sized rugs at a deep discount?
Art & Decor
Lastly I need to bring in some more art and decor. I’m a fan of simple and clean when it comes to most spaces. The bedroom is no exception. Of course in real life we have a lot of STUFF, so I need to come up with some ways to make it easy to access our stuff without cluttering up our room.
I have a few pieces for our room and a lovely old mirror in a wood frame, but I still have a few ideas in mind like this ‘Sweet Dreams’ print.
The Budget
The budget I’m aiming for with our bedroom is approximately $2,500. A hefty budget to be sure, especially with so many things already in place, but the bed and mattress will easily eat up 90% of this.
Any advice on what to avoid? Thoughts on colors or other ideas? I’d love your insights. 🙂

No problem! I’m still debating if I’m up for the task of taking on a bed. 🙂
