Thanksgiving Heroes & Meals for the Holidays {Verizon FiOS}

November 20, 2012 By Kelly Leave a Comment

Thanksgiving is only a few short days away, and I’ve been taking the time to write what I’m grateful for every day this month. One of the things I’m most grateful for is how quiet this holiday is for our family. We typically spend Thanksgiving with just the 6 of us, while every other year my parents join us for a low-key holiday feast, games, and vegging out.

It’s the same way we spent the Thanksgiving holiday most years when I was growing up. Somehow even though it was only my mom, dad, sister, and I it was always a special day. My mom always made it such a special holiday cooking a full-on feast. We set the dining room table with the china and silver, put on nice clothes, and had a proper meal at the table.

I know how much work it was for my mom since I’ve done the same thing myself for the last several years and because of that she’s my Thanksgiving Hero. She taught me the importance of family time, traditions, and the best way to give thanks-by just being together.

Who is Your Hero?

Submit a 75-200 word story and photo about who makes your Thanksgiving special. Share who your Thanksgiving Hero is and how you stay connected throughout the year. You can share your story via social media, and enter to win a trip to Food Network studios in New York City!

How do you stay in touch with your Thanksgiving Hero?

  • Is it phone calls with your mom?
  • Maybe calling your aunt after every episode of Real Housewives so you can rehash the latest drama?
  • Do you and your best friend chat via Skype?
  • Do you talk football with your Dad after every game?

Give Meals this Holiday Season with Verizon

Verizon FiOS has partnered with the Food Network to promote the Thanksgiving Meal Hero Campaign in association with Share Our Strength/No Kid Left Behind to donate up to 150,000 meals this Thanksgiving season. By participating you can enter to win a chance to tour the Food Network Studios in NYC!

Don’t have a story to share? You can still help! Register to vote for the submitted stories and you’ll donate up to 30 meals just by rating stories (1 donation = 3 meals per story for a maximum of 10 stories). You can donate an additional 30 meals by going to the Verizon site and checking to see if their residence qualifies for Verizon FiOS.

By registering to vote you’re also entered into the weekly sweepstakes where a random selection will determine who receives a package of Food Network cookbooks/supplies and a tablet device!

You can also find recipes, video tips from Food Network, and time-saving videos like how to cook a turkey faster on the Verizon FiOS Facebook page.

Who is your Thanksgiving Hero?

Disclosure: As a Verizon FiOS ambassador I am compensated for my time, but my love for FiOS is all my own.
