Thanksgiving is only a few short days away, and I’ve been taking the time to write what I’m grateful for every day this month. One of the things I’m most grateful for is how quiet this holiday is for our family. We typically spend Thanksgiving with just the 6 of us, while every other year my parents join us for a low-key holiday feast, games, and vegging out.
It’s the same way we spent the Thanksgiving holiday most years when I was growing up. Somehow even though it was only my mom, dad, sister, and I it was always a special day. My mom always made it such a special holiday cooking a full-on feast. We set the dining room table with the china and silver, put on nice clothes, and had a proper meal at the table.
I know how much work it was for my mom since I’ve done the same thing myself for the last several years and because of that she’s my Thanksgiving Hero. She taught me the importance of family time, traditions, and the best way to give thanks-by just being together.
