This flu season is upon us and reports are that it is going to be a bad one. No one likes to get the flu, but reports are saying this flu season could be a bad one, so preparing yourself is the best bet.
7 Tips for Reducing the Risk of the Flu:
Flashback! Little Aidan (at 4) sick.
1. Wash while you sing.
Wash your hands after using the bathroom, after you handle shoes or dirty laundry, and after you come home. Sing the ABCs from start to finish to make sure you clean your hands throughly.
2. Wipe it down.
Germs can lurk on doorknobs, sink handles, touchscreens, and of course the toilet handle. Wipe down these things frequently with vinegar, tea tree oil, or good old soap and hot water.
3. Eat superfoods.
Eating healthy including immune boosting foods will help keep your immune system strong.
4. Drink up!
Drink plenty of fluids including water and tea. For every cup of coffee, alcohol, or juice drink a glass of water. Staying hydrated helps your immune system stays strong.
5. Sleep in.
I know it’s easier said than done, but it will help your immune system fight off germs and keep you from getting a serious case of the flu.
6. Exercise regularly.
Even a small amount of exercise each day can help you stay healthier and boost your immune system-a key to avoiding the flu. So get out there and go for a walk for 20 minutes a day or do some cardio exercise at home (jumping jacks anyone?).
7. Ignore the news.
Since we live in a 24 hour media cycle all the news shows will constantly talk about the flu and how it compares to other years. Do yourself a favor and don’t watch. There is some evidence (this blog post links to several studies) that negative news can have an impact on our health.
