Sugar, Sugar: Other Names For Sugar

October 1, 2015 By Kelly

Sugar hides in our food. Other names for sugar may seem odd, confusing, and downright weird. You probably know that brown sugar is sugar, or that cane sugar is sugar, but you may not realize that dextrose is sugar as well. And you may not realize it’s in things like pasta sauce (really!), applesauce, crackers, bread, and so much more.

No matter what name it goes by sugar can be incredibly addicting. Breaking up with sugar can be hard to do, but I know you can do it. I know because I was the biggest sweet tooth ever and I broke up with sugar late last year. I can now indulge occasionally without much of an issue, but I know it’s a slippery slope, so I recommitting to no sugar along with my whole family, and am inviting you all along for the ride.

There are challenges to be sure, some of which I outlined when I announced the challenge, but the biggest one is when you go to the store you have to really, really, really read all the labels to find what has sugar.

To get you started before we start the challenge I put together a list of what the names of sugar are on the packaging or ingredients list for packaged products.

Ready to kick sugar to the curb? Join our 30 day sugar detox challenge.

When: We’re starting today and ending on October 30th. I may not like sugar anymore, but I’m not cruel enough to make the kids miss Halloween. If you do the challenge you may not end up eating as much sugar as you would during October, and will certainly jumpstart yourself into a healthier holiday season.

Where: I created a Facebook group for support. Come talk with us, introduce yourself, ask questions, and get support when you’re having a tough day. Join our 30 Day No Sugar Facebook group here.

What: Sign up for emails. I’ll be sending out about one email a week with some tips, tricks, and info. No spam, just things that might help push you through. Sign up here.

How: Use the #30DayNoSugar hashtag to share your pictures, struggles, and victories.

We try to eat pretty healthily most of the time, especially since hubs is going to be a doctor, but I don’t know if I could ever do a complete sugar detox. It sounds difficult since sugar is in so many things. Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

Great Idea, not sure I can do it but I will try.

[…] We’ve dumped sugar, I’ve been gluten-free for 5 years, and I’ve given up on dairy (it doesn’t agree with me). And now we’re going vegan. Yes, I’m still eating food. :p […]
