STEM Gift Ideas for Kids from RadioShack

During the holiday season there are a ton of gift ideas for the kids on your list, but most list are missing STEM gift ideas. While we love games and toys we’re finding more and more that our kids prefer things to use to develop their passions and skills for STEM.

To encourage their love of STEM it only makes sense to seek gift ideas they can use to learn science, improve their technology skills, help them hone their engineering interests, learn more math skills, and most importantly keep them busy throughout their holiday break. 😉

I’ve put together some STEM gift ideas for kids with help from sponsor RadioShack. Be sure to check out their Black Friday deals or weekly ad for great deals, free shipping on online orders, and you’ll get $10 for a future purchase for every $40 you spend!

5 STEM Gift Ideas for Kids from Radio Shack

1. Roominate

Roominate is a DIY wired building kit that will help kids get hands-on with STEM skills. You can wire up the motor and build accessories such as bunk beds, a laptop desk, cupcake stand, slides and more.

This is sure to be a hit with STEM kids, but especially girls! I’ve already got this tucked away for a certain 10 year old on my list.

Price: Normally $29.99, marked down to $27.99

2. Make Kits

Make magazine is a family favorite. Not only are there tons of great ideas for the makers in our family, but you can get inspired by projects they share to make your own up. They partnered with RadioShack to create some awesome kits for kids (and adults) of all ages.

This Make: Robotics Starter Kit is great for any STEM lover on your list. It allows them to get a taste of programming and will get them excited when they realize how fun and simple it can be!

Price: $79.99 and also requires Arduino Uno R3 board sold separately.

3. littleBits

littleBits are a great gift for the little developers, hackers, and makers on your list. They can create all kinds of really fun projects and connect anything to the internet.

That means you can do things like get a notification from your umbrella stand to take an umbrella when it’s going to rain, or you can automatically feed your goldfish. Check out this AWESOME video below. We need this so we can have our dog notify us when he needs to go outside!

Price: Starter kit start at $99.99 or you can purchase add-ons for a variety of projects.

2. Auvio Folding Headset

My 8 year old loves video games, but not just because he loves playing them, because he wants to develop them someday! These handy folding headphones are perfect for him since they come with a built-in mic for gameplay with friends and for developing his own YouTube channel where he’ll share his gameplay, tricks he knows, and eventually the games he will develop.

The easy to carry foldable headphones can go anywhere-in his backpack or in a suitcase when we travel. Bonus? We don’t have to hear the din of Minecraft crafting all afternoon!

Price: $29.99

Click here to read more or buy.

5. Drone

Drones are an awesome gift idea, and this Surveyor Drone is an affordable option if you have a drone on your holiday shopping list. It includes a camera that allows you to shoot video and stills. It also has a stunt button so you can flip the drone 360 degrees! Read all the specs at the link below.

Price: $34.99 on sale, $69.99 regular price
