Mobile apps are where it’s at. I’m a big fan of managing my money and credit on the go and mobile apps are the best way to stay on top of payments, credit limits, pay bills, and more no matter where I am. I’m compiling a list of my favorite apps, but I would love to hear what you like to use in the comments.
My Top 10 Mobile Apps For Managing Money
1. Discover Mobile:
If you have a Discover card (and you should!) their mobile app is a great way to keep track of your account when you’re on the go. You can make payments, view account activity, get in-app statements, earn and redeem rewards, set up mobile alerts, and use Freeze it to freeze your card should it get lost. We have several credit cards and this is by far the most robust app of the bunch.
- Available for: iPhone, iPad, or Android phone.

2. Personal Bank App:
Our local credit union serves as our personal bank. It has an app that’s easy to use, and allows me to do everything I need and then some! My favorite feature? I can deposit checks from my mobile phone directly into any of our accounts-checking or savings.

3. Business Bank App:
Since I’m a small business owner I have a separate business account. I use a different local credit union for my business account and they also have a pretty robust app. The only hiccup came when I wanted to add mobile deposit. I had to set that up via my computer to get it to work-a bit of a one-time hassle, but well worth it so I don’t have to drive to the bank ever! The app allows me to deposit checks, check balances, transfer funds, and more.

4. PayPal
The mobile app for PayPal is essential for me. Since I accept and send payments as a small business owner via PayPal it’s helpful to have it on my phone so I can transfer funds, send payments, and check balances all from my phone.
- Available for: iPhone, iPad, Windows, or Android phone.

5. Stocks
I use the iPhone’s built in stocks app daily to check up on our investments. While it’s not entirely necessary to check daily on things like our retirement accounts I still get a kick out of watching the charts and numbers. I am a money nerd after all. 😉
Available for: iPhone, iPad, while Android and Windows have similar apps.
6. Financial News Apps
There are a ton of financial news apps to choose from and I keep a few on my phone. It’s helpful to get the latest financial news quickly and a variety of other features like calculators, and videos. This is helpful no matter how geeked out you are on personal finance. A quick look at the latest in financial news can be helpful for everyone.
- Available for: iPhone, iPad, Windows, or Android phone

7. Acorns
This clever app allows you to invest your spare change in stocks. It’s a neat concept that allows you to create a diversified portfolio of investments with minimal fees.
- Available for: iPhone, iPad, or Android phone.

8. Personal Capital
Personal Capital is my new favorite way to track all our money in one place. It takes some time to set up your account but once you’ve added your credit cards, bank accounts, investments, and other financial accounts you get a clear look at your finances with just a quick look. While there are some tweaks I’d like to see (deleting certain recurring charges that overlap) there is a lot to like here. I can see a snapshot of our net worth without math, which is great when I want to check in on the go.
- Available for: iPhone, iPad, or Android phone.

9. Mint
Mint has long been the standard for managing your money in one place. I’m always a little hesitant to recommend it because it tends not to play well with smaller banks (which we use for our main accounts), but it works for a lot of readers, so I included it here. Plus I’m not a fan of their ‘tips’ since they involve signing up for new accounts that often don’t save me money or are only marginally better.
- Available for: iPhone, iPad, or Android phone.

10. BillGuard
BillGuard allows you to stay on top of charges so you can flag fraud easier. The app is free and works a lot like finding spam in your inbox. A quick swipe and you’ve identified fraud. In a sense it’s like crowdsourcing to find where breaches are happening.
- Available for: iPhone, iPad, or Android phone.
