Next week I’ll be heading to DisneyWorld for a conference, Disney Social Media Moms. I know, rough life, right? Since blogging is often done at home (or in coffee shops) many bloggers let panic set in when attending a brand event or conference for the first time. Since we usually spend our days in front of the computer, or chasing kids it can be challenging to figure out what to wear to events.
Like any profession though, you attend a conference or event as a professional and should dress the part. While it’s common to see folks in what they are comfortable in, you can take anything from jeans to a casual dress and make it into a put together look.
Without spending a fortune (and hopefully finding some of these items in your closet!) I put together a basic conference wardrobe for a typical 3 day conference or brand event. I have 10 items I always take when I travel, but you can pull together your own look with a few key pieces.
Of note: Most of the items below are $50 and under. The items from Banana Republic can be purchased for 25% off now through Sunday and an additional 5% of your purchase goes to help create jobs! (how cool is that?) Details on the deal at Centsible Deals.
What to Wear to a Conference or Brand Event
Step #1: Choose a dress that’s a travel-friendly material. I like jersey material since it is so comfortable and doesn’t wrinkle easily.
Step #2: Choose cardigans or blazers to cover up. Indoor events are always chilly, so come prepared!
Step #3: Jeans are classic and always a favorite. They are easy to throw on, and you can dress up jeans simply with an embellished top or a cute blouse. Throw on some cute shoes and accessories and you’re set!
Step #4: Choose tops that you love. Blouses, tanks, anything goes!
Step #5: Choose shoes you are comfortable in whether that’s sneakers that are cute, flats or heels.
Step #6: Accessorize with your favorite pieces, but skip the real gems.
Step #7: Pack it all in a carry-on and you’re good to go! (and don’t forget the chargers!)
What do you wear when you attend events or conferences?

Don’t laugh at me when you see me dressed exactly like one of your collections.

i agree with comfy and cute but dresses involve shaving. and i’m lazy!
Great tips as I am attending my first conference in May for Bloggy Boot Camp!
It makes for such easy dressing doesn’t it? I think I’m more of a dress girl than a pants girl-I hate the way most pants fit my post 4 baby body.
Me too! I wish I could pull that color off better. My daughter wears it and it suits her.
I think as long as you wear black you’re ok. Kidding! Kinda. 😉 No dresses, really? I could totally see you in dresses. Comfy + cute is my motto. Even if it costs more I think it’s worth it. 😉
Thanks!
Thanks! Aw, sorry. 🙁 It’s my first time attending, so I’m thrilled though a bit sad I won’t have my kids with me to enjoy it together.
Fun! I’ll have to stop by and check it out. 🙂 I am not purchasing clothes at the moment, but I think like anything it’s a look that can work on anyone with the right fit and style. 🙂

I’ll be attending my first out of state conference in June so I’ve been trying to plan my wardrobe as well. I’ll be in NYC so i wanna look extra stylish but I realize i’ll hafta still wear comfy shoes or i’ll die. I dont wear dresses so the colored jeans are appealing to me. I never go anywhere without a jacket or cardi so we are right in line with that! thanks for the tips!
I love the coral colored top!

Great tips! I wear dresses constantly, and cardigans or jackets nearly every day that it’s not sweltering.
