4 Ways To Save Big For Back To School (And Beyond)

September 17, 2015 By Kelly

Sponsored post disclosure

Back to school is in full swing, and with it comes all the back-to-school shopping. Even if you’re prepared with everything on the teacher’s list at back to school time it’s likely there’s a few more things on your list.

From items our teachers forgot to add to the back to school supply list to the shoes they suddenly outgrew, September is shopping time for most families. Thankfully there are a few ways to save big at this time of year.

4 Ways To Save Big For Back To School (And Beyond)

1. Shop Back To School Clearance

Did you know back to school gear is already deeply discounted? It’s true! Stores are already making room for their Halloween and holiday gear, so back to school supplies will hit rock bottom prices in the coming days and weeks.

The same goes for any seasonal shift. After holiday clearance happens the day after Christmas, Halloween gear and candy is the same, and on and on throughout the year.

Tip: Stock up on essentials like notebook paper and pencils for pennies! They are great for next school year, restocking, or can even make great holiday gift ideas.

2. Shop Clothing Clearance

As clothing seasons shift, merchandise gets deeply discounted. Just like back to school supplies you’ll find crazy deals like 30-90% off. Shopping clearance for clothing not only helps you stock up for next year, but it can net you some great layering pieces for other seasons, too. For instance, tank tops may be great for summer sun, but they also work well as a bottom layer under a cardigan, sweater, or even a long-sleeve shirt.

Tip: Look for coupons and discounts to use on top of those rock bottom clearance prices.

3. Discover Deals

Shopping with Discover Deals makes it easier to shop, save and earn rewards with popular brands both online and in stores, perfect for scoring back-to-school shopping deals. Cardmembers are able to purchase supplies and clothing through a variety of merchants, while using discounts offered through Discover Deals.

To search available, current deals, cardmembers can login to the Discover Deals portal, either online or through Discover’s mobile app.

If you are not a current cardmemeber you can sign up for a Discover card on discover.com and earn Double Cashback Bonus® on all of the cash back you earn during your first year. The double would be added to your account after your first anniversary, if the card is still open.

Tip: Learn how you can save after you shop, too!

4. Cash back Rewards

Using your Discover card will also allow you to earn cash back on top of Discover Deals and clearance prices. That mean you’ll be earning cashback on top of the already reduced prices you’re getting!

You can use your cash back in a variety of ways including:

  • statement credit;
  • cash in your bank account;
  • donate to charity;
  • gift cards for your favorite retailers;
  • or shop with your cash back on Amazon.

What are ways you save on back to school? Do you use your Discover card for cash back and Discover Deals?
