Better Baking & Easier Dieting With Fraser Scale

March 24, 2015 By Kelly Leave a Comment

One of the most essential and overlooked tools you can have for your kitchen is a kitchen scale. It can be used for a variety of reasons such as precise measuring for baking, measuring ingredients for cooking, or to monitor your portion size when you’re aiming to eat healthier. We have a scale, but I had been in the market for a new one for a while. Finding the right scale for an affordable price can be a challenge, though. Thankfully, Fraser Scale offered to send us a scale to try out and I’m glad they did because it’s the perfect budget-friendly tool.

How Using A Scale Helped Us Lose Weight

Over the last several months my husband and I have lost almost 70 pounds combined. That’s more than our 11-year-old weighs! While losing weight has been challenging at times the hardest part came in the beginning of our weight loss journey. Learning how much you’re really eating can be quite eye-opening!

In the beginning we weighed and measured everything to get a sense of how much we were actually consuming. A portion size of chips is a LOT different from a bowl full of chips. A portion of steak is way, way smaller than you may think it is. While some people may rail against the idea of weighing and measuring your food we found it was incredibly helpful to reset the way we think about eating. It’s not so much about cutting back as it is about being more conscious of what we’re eating. Now I can safely eyeball certain staples, but I still use a scale when I am eating something new at home.

Fraser Scale Review

The scale is a must-have essential tool for your kitchen. Not only is it a great size, it’s easy to clean, and won’t take up a ton of counter space while still offering the ability to use it for larger containers.

Favorite Features

Not Too Big, Not Too Small
Finding a scale that is small enough in size to not overtake your counter space while allowing you to measure things from a cup full of granola to a mixing bowl full of flour isn’t as easy as it seems. Scales are often made in one of two sizes-teeny tiny for people who are dieting to extra-large for bakers. A mid-sized one is ideal.

The Fraser scale is a great mid-sized scale. It won’t take up a ton of valuable counter space, but it’s big enough to handle up to 11 pounds. It measures about 7 by 5 (the longer side is where you’ll find your buttons and be able to view the weight).

Flexible Use
We use our scale not only for baking but also for measuring out portion sizes. Being able to do both easily without the need for a larger scale makes the Fraser scale a winner in my book.

Flexible Measuring
You can easily change from grams to ounces. This is key when you’re looking at serving sizes in particular.

Easy To Clean
Our previous scale was glass-topped but it screwed into a base which was easy to get messy. Crumbs and flour got stuck to it easily. It would also accumulate dust and grime all over the base-not pretty. The Fraser Scale is all tempered glass so it’s simple to clean when you make those inevitable messes in your kitchen.

Price
Clocking in at just under $25 this scale is available for purchase on Amazon. It’s a great option at an affordable price, and with Prime membership you’ll get it in just two days.

Drawbacks

Must Lay Flat
There’s an area of our counters that isn’t exactly flat, and that quickly taught me that the scale needed an entirely flat surface to work properly. The weight jumped around a bit when it was on an angled surface, so be sure you’re using it on a solid and flat surface.

Overall I think it’s a great choice for the price, and it’s an essential tool for your kitchen.

You can purchase the Fraser Scale on Amazon.
